The new emergency department at Townsville Hospital’s North Block facility opened to the public in June 2011. The 94 million dollar project is the first completed stage of Townsville Hospital’s redevelopment, which is expected to be completed in 2014. The emergency department has been designed to endure the demanding nature of the facility, with the use of C/S Acrovyn.
The North Block emergency department is a new 4 storey building, constructed by Thiess, with the capacity to treat 75 patients through increased treatment spaces, provides 34-bed maternity inpatient units, 30-bed intensive care unit and 6 new short-stay beds.
The state’s biggest emergency department has been designed by Cox Rayner Architects to endure the pressures of a hospital’s emergency department, with frequent transportation of equipment and high pedestrian activity.
A selection of C/S products have been specified, and installed by Cairns Carpentry and Joinery Services (CCJS), to achieve high quality internal finishes, including Acrovyn sheets, corner guards, crash rails, handrails, door protection and thermoformed angles.
Sub-contractor CCJS reported on their work relationahip with C/S throughout the stages of the project, and praised the benefits of working synonymously.
CCJS Profect Manager, Julian Kirkwood, dealt first hand with C/S.
“Although a large and often complex task, C/S with their accurate systems in place were able to deliver a concise, friendly service. CCJS have in fact pre-ordered the next large order with C/S which again reinforces the harmony that the project went forward with.”
