Our ligature resistant handrail being used at Wagga Wagga Base Hospital
The Wagga Wagga Base hospital in regional NSW, is a very important hospital facility for the local area, as it is located in the largest regional city of NSW, nestled on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River. The hospital provides a very wide range of health care services, including a specialised Mental Health Recovery Unit that provides a large modern and comfortable facility, all co-located on the one Wagga Wagga Base hospital site.
Construction Specialties were called upon to provide expert solutions for their ligature resistant handrails (AW-LR from the United States) throughout the hospital. Working closely with the architect and the installer, Construction Specialties listened closely to the requirements of the multi-purpose healthcare facility and with many years of healthcare experience, recommended the AW-LR as the optimal solution.

The AW-LR has a stunning large solid profile to be easy to hold or lean on, helping patients, staff and visitors, move safely throughout the walk ways of the hospital. The handrail is supported and fixed using a clever continuous aluminium mounting bracket. More importantly, the one-piece ligature resistant design, goes straight to the wall and is specifically suited to environments that support mental health care patients. By removing all potential areas throughout the facility where anything could be tied to, we minimise the risk of self-harm of those patients suffering with mental illness. With thoughtful design and correct product selection, we can take out these points of ligature, whilst still upholding the overall interior design.
